Small Bathroom Storage Ideas for Apartments

Small bathroom storage comes down to one principle: get things off the floor and the edge of the basin, and put them somewhere that looks deliberate. A basket on a shelf for rolled towels, a tray for the bottles you use every day, and a cupboard for everything else. Most apartment bathrooms in Dubai have very little built-in storage, so the ideas below assume no cabinet, one shelf, and a landlord who does not want holes in the tiles.

Start at the basin

The basin edge is where a small bathroom loses its calm. Toothbrushes, three bottles of something, a razor, a candle, hand soap. Clear it to two objects: the soap and one tray holding the things you use twice a day. Everything else moves to the shelf or the cupboard. A bathroom with a clear basin looks twice the size in the mirror, which in a small bathroom is most of what you see.

Baskets for bathroom storage

Baskets are the best small bathroom storage idea because they add capacity without adding furniture. One basket on a shelf holds rolled towels; another under the basin holds spare toilet roll and the bottles you buy in bulk. A woven cotton basket set gives you both sizes: the medium for towels or the under-basin bulk, the small for a shelf or the top of the cistern. They are 100% woven cotton with a leather label, so they look soft against tiles, and the handles are woven into the sides so nothing snags a towel.

One caution with cotton: keep it dry. A basket belongs on a shelf or a ledge, not on the floor beside the shower, and not in the splash zone of a bath. Given a dry spot, cotton baskets last for years and spot clean easily; our cleaning guide covers the details.

Bathroom storage for towels

Fold bath towels in thirds lengthways and roll them; rolled towels fit a basket, stay fluffy and look like a hotel. Keep only the towels you use this week in the bathroom, and the spares in a bedroom cupboard. A medium basket holds three rolled bath towels or six hand towels. Put it on the shelf above the toilet or on the ledge by the bath, where it is within reach and looks like decor.

Under-sink bathroom storage

If the basin has a cupboard, one basket inside it keeps the bottles upright and stops the cupboard becoming a pile. If it does not, a basket on the floor under a wall-hung basin is fine as long as the floor stays dry; put it on the side away from the shower. Use the small basket for cleaning products and the medium for spare paper and the bulk bottles.

One shelf, well used

Most Dubai apartment bathrooms have a single shelf or a tiled niche. Treat it like a shelf in the living room: three objects, not ten. The small basket with rolled hand towels, a candle, a single stem in a glass. That is enough. A niche styled this way makes the whole bathroom look designed, and it takes two minutes.

The candle question

A candle in a bathroom is not only decor; it is the thing that turns a small, tiled room into somewhere you want to spend twenty minutes. Choose a soft, clean scent. Quiet Hours, a lavender soy candle in a blush ceramic vessel with a gold-trimmed flower lid, is the one we keep by the bath; when it is finished the ceramic becomes a dish for rings while you wash. Keep it on the shelf or the niche rather than the edge of the bath, away from towels and the shower curtain, and never leave it burning when you leave the room. Our candle safety guide has the full list.

Small bathroom storage ideas that need no drilling

  • A basket on the cistern lid for spare rolls and hand towels
  • A tray on the basin for the daily bottles, so the basin can be wiped in one movement
  • Rolled towels in a basket on the shelf or ledge instead of folded on a rail
  • A small basket inside the under-basin cupboard to keep bottles upright
  • One candle and one stem in the niche, nothing else

Keeping it that way

Once a week, empty the basin tray, wipe it, and put back only what you used. Bottles that were not opened go to the cupboard basket. This is the same discipline as a tidy kitchen counter, which we wrote about in kitchen counter organisation: the surface is for using, the basket is for keeping.

Bathroom storage questions

What is the best storage for a small bathroom with no cabinet?

Baskets on the shelf, the cistern and under the basin, plus one tray at the basin. It adds storage without adding furniture or holes in the tiles.

Can I use a cotton basket in the bathroom?

Yes, on a shelf or ledge that stays dry. Keep it out of the shower's splash zone and off a wet floor, and it will last for years.

How do I store towels in a small bathroom?

Roll them and keep this week's towels in a basket on the shelf. Spares live in a bedroom cupboard, not the bathroom.

Where can I buy bathroom storage baskets in Dubai?

Our home organisation collection ships across the UAE in one to three business days, with free standard delivery on orders over AED 375. For the rest of the home, see storage baskets room by room.
