Styling

Styling is arrangement, not decoration. Most rooms already contain what they need; the difference usually comes from grouping, height and restraint rather than from buying anything further.

These notes cover shelves, consoles and the quiet corners that are easiest to neglect — working in odd numbers, varying height without creating clutter, and leaving enough empty space for the objects that remain to register. We look at using woven baskets to ground a shelf, candles and ceramics to add weight at eye level, and texture to keep a neutral palette from reading as flat. Practical, repeatable and specific enough to apply the same afternoon. Most of it starts with taking something away rather than buying anything new, and every technique here can be undone in the time it took to try.
